trip out west - part four

From NM, we headed  for our Uncle Paul and Aunt Tiffany's in Southern, CO.

This is their little country church near San Luis.

It was a dark and stormy night ... After the evening service we headed out so we could drop Susanna off at the airport the next day.  We had been on the road for almost an hour and a half when we plowed right into an elk.

This is what it did to our van.

Friday morning the tow truck came and got it.  The tow truck took it to a place where it stayed for a whole week. :(   Meanwhile we headed back for our Uncle Paul and Aunt Tiff's.
 This was our rental car.

On Sunday we had a blessed Lord's day.

We saw a river baptism ...

... and enjoyed a picnic lunch.

This is what it looks like there.  (miles and miles of sage brush, mountains and a little bit of cactus.)

We enjoyed our stay very much, but everyone was happy when the van was done and we could go home. :)

trip out west - part 3

From Yellowstone we headed for southern Wyoming to visit our oldest cousin and his family.

The guys headed home after an afternoon of putting fence post in.

*~Mountain Dew ~*

On to Grand Junction, CO.   We visited Mum's cousin Jaquie and her husband Steve.

*~`~*

On our way to Papa Dick and Gramma's we stopped and had a picnic supper by a waterful out of Silverton, CO.

*~`~*

The boys climbed the rocks ...

... and found themselves in very dangerous positions!

*~`~*

Deer in Durango, CO, not too many feet from Uncle Jack's house.

One afternoon we went for a picnic in the hills...

... by a pretty lake.

*~The box ~*  We love our box!  :)

After Papa's and Gramma's we headed for Uncle Wendell and Aunt Jimmie's place.  We got some pictures while we helped butcher chickens.

First, cut their heads off.

Then scald them in boiling water.

Pluck their feathers.

Then gut them.

Pull and cut them apart.  All done!

Ok, hope you enjoyed that!  There is going to be pictures of our wrecked van coming up in the next post.  Stay tuned!

Some of us hiked up the side of a mountain to grab some snow.  In July!

There were wildflowers right close to the snow. (really pretty purple/blue ones)

- Yellowstone National Park -

At the lake soon after we entered.

It was very cold!
